BlerDCon

Verbal Slick was tapped to lead publicity and media strategy for BlerDCon, the annual multicultural celebration of Blerd (Black nerd) culture, held in Washington, D.C. Known for its authentic engagement with fandoms spanning anime, cosplay, gaming, tech, and Afrofuturism, BlerDCon partnered with Verbal Slick to amplify its presence in mainstream press, Black media outlets, and social spaces. The goal: increase awareness, attract new attendees, and elevate the event’s profile as a cultural touchstone for Black creatives and innovators.

SCOPE

Verbal Slick led the publicity strategy for BlerDCon 2025 with a comprehensive approach that spanned pre-event media outreach, press coordination, influencer engagement, and on-site content production. The team developed tailored press releases and media kits, secured high-profile media partnerships with outlets like Blavity, Essence, and Nerdist, and coordinated interviews for founders and special guests across podcasts, radio shows, and digital platforms. They also managed press credentials for over 75 media representatives and curated a VIP press lounge and branded media experience on-site.

RESULTS

The results were significant: press coverage increased by 32% compared to the previous year, with over 25 media features. BlerDCon trended nationally on social media, generating more than 6.5 million impressions and over 1.2 million video views within a week. The elevated press presence attracted first-time sponsors in the tech, film and media industries.
